PROGRAMME FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON
** Tshwane Community Library and Information Service ABET/Literacy Project
It is said that "feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it" (W. A. Ward).
Amidst all the challenging times and events of the past year, this year at our AGM we will be reflecting on the privilege of basic literacy. Literacy afforded us to embark on a journey of being employed as professionals, enabled us to be fully functional individuals in our places of work, as well as in our personal relationahips.
Victor Hugo remarked: "To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark."
You will be attending the AGM and cocktail function afterwards free of charge. We request you to consider with a kind and gracious heart a contribution towards this ABET/Literacy Project. This can be brought with you on the day of the Meeting.
Voluntary contributions selected from the following list of stationary will be most welcome:
• 14 Boxes of Typek for photocopying
• 100 X pencils
• 100 X black pen
• 100 X A4 note books
• 100 X eraser
• 100 X pencil sharpener
• 100 X exam pads
"It isn't the size of the gift that matters, but the size of the heart that gives it." (Eileen E. Freeman)
More about the ABET/Literacy Project
Tshwane Community Library and Information Service ABET/Literacy Project has set up service points in 6 areas within Tshwane namely Temba, Hammanskraal, Ga-rankuwa, Stanza Bopape ( Mamelodi), Soshanguve and Olievenhoutbosch. The Project affords about 120 adult learners in Tshwane the opportunity to learn and develop themselves through skills imparted to them.
The Fundamental Learning programme consists of Literacy and Communication. The adult learners not only have the opportunity to improve their reading abilities, but also to improve their individual economic competency. This makes a great contribution towards the alleviation of poverty, improving the economy of our country and assisting in eradicating illiteracy as stipulated in the national priorities of government.
In addition to co-ordinating the Project with the Tshwane Community Library and Information Service, Sabinet also sponsors it.
Shamila Duncan, Marketing Director at Sabinet will share some of the highlights, success and challenges of this very important and inspirational initiative in Tshwane.
